Kathleen Bloomfield-Gibbs

ARTIST STATEMENT

Through a range of media, though predominantly based in painting and drawing, Kathleen strives to capture and interpret experiences, fleeting moments in time, and the beauty in both natural and man-made environments, with nostalgia and the movement of light being ever present themes.

Kathleen creates works using colour and texture as a language consisting of many components to translate memories into visual form. Dreamlike colours and textures steeped in nostalgic tones both feature prominently in the resulting works.

The golden haze of the sun on weathered rocks evokes feelings of warmth and slow summer days, while the sun dappled azure blue of the Mediterranean Sea evokes a sense of cooling relief, the movement of the water, and sea-spray from the back of a boat.

Fleeting moments are also captured, such as the way light falls on a crumbling wall of once-rich colours, now washed-out and textured from exposure to nature’s elements and the passage of time.
